Better to have a polished Season than a broken one?

It feels like a distant memory since we saw the release of Fortnite Chapter 2, the internet went crazy over a black hole which appeared to swallow up the entire game before coming back online. Now though, we're being teased once again with news of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2. the problem is though, it's been delayed until the latter part of February!

When is Chapter 2 Season 2 arriving?

Players will have to wait until February 20 to play the next season of Fortnite, that's following on from the initial promise of a February 6 release. Digging into the API of the game, data miners were able to discover the date pushback of extending the features of Chapter two Season one. At the time of writing, we're currently over 100 days into the life of the current season, which is significantly longer than the ten-week average of previous seasons.

The official announcement from Epic Games mentions the fact that the delay is, in part, down to the move to Unreal Engine's chaos physics engine. The reveal mentions, "At launch, the goal is to ensure that Fortnite still feels like Fortnite. Along the way there will be some bumps, so we're starting tests with a small group of players." Epic is not spelling out that the delay is down to the Chaos Engine, but no one wants an unfinished Season of Fortnite, even if that does mean a delay. With that in mind, its probably for the best that Epic is attending to the bugs before releasing Season 2.

Reading further into the announcement, it goes on to tease some of the features coming to Season 2, keeping them redacted, it reads "Chapters 2, season 2 will feature [redacted] with multiple [redacted]. We can't brief you on all of next season's secrets just yet…" A new fortnight-long event will arrive before the end of Season One, in addition to a handful of Overtime challenges.
