What a time to be a gamer!
It might seem like only yesterday we saw games like Little Big Planet 2, Spelunky, and Dead Space 2 making their debut, but would you believe these titles launched almost then years ago. Seriously, where the heck has that time gone!? We're not here to talk about those games though (although they were awesome), we've put together a list of the best games we've had the pleasure of playing over the past ten years.
5. Zelda: Breath of the Wild
In fifth place, we have a game that took two decades of amazing stories from its game franchise to deliver a title with a world that just kept on giving. Huge lists of tasks, shocking secrets, and waves of treasures kept us wanting to explore what was to come over the next mountain. A great variety of characters with their quests, combined with a combat system with a puzzle backing to make a Zelda entry that would redefine the entire series.
4. Portal 2
Many are yet to explore the intriguing story of Portal 2, but our number four entry deserved a spot for one of the most inventive puzzle entries of this decade. Your hovering Alexa called GlaDoS ensures you listen to a variety of speakers along your journey that combine humor with vibrant life. You'll traverse an array of deserted corridors and solve puzzles to progress through the game. Not many games feature such great storytelling that leaves you ready to plow through the story.
3. Red Dead Redemption
Although modern crime, table tennis, and private education had already been well and truly mastered by Rockstar when Red Dead redemption landed, it left players intrigued as to what a Western spin might look like. Red Dead Redemption smashed through the bar Rockstar had already set for the pre-existing open-world entries. John Marsden may have met his demise, but the legacy he left behind will live on to the next decade.
2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
It's no wonder The Witcher 3 Game of The Year edition was created, each an every space of the world offers a new character to come close with (or not), a new adventure, and an original path of romance to follow. For RPG fans, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt immerses you almost immediately, leaving players eagerly waiting to explore the depths of this fantasy world.
1. The Last of Us
In the very first place is a game that's defined the last decade, exploring the most profound emotions of loss, the human condition, most importantly, love. One of the most iconic pieces of The Last of Us is its characters, as good as the enemy AIs, designs of the set-pieces, and combat system. The game follows the story of Joel and Ellie, a father who's heart is in pieces, and a surrogate daughter who beams feistiness. Although the pair are on a journey to stop[ the end of the human race, we remember the game for the walls and trials they overcome along the way. The Last of Us genuinely set the tone for this decade's gaming generation, and six years following its release, it remains a real contender in the adventure game genre.
Were there other entries you'd have wanted to see in our top five games of the decades? We'd love to know!
